About Brett

Brett James-Halter is a jazz drummer, composer, and arranger whose work explores the space between tradition and innovation. Grounded in jazz and improvisation, Brett draws inspiration from jazz fusion, electronic music, progressive rock, and math rock.

As a musician, Brett is fascinated by the relationship between structure and spontaneity — blending complex rhythms, dynamic textures, and improvisation to create music that is both expressive and forward-thinking. His original compositions and arrangements reflect his interest in genre exploration while staying rooted in the creativity and collaboration at the heart of jazz.

Beyond performance, Brett develops his ideas through composition, arranging, production, and digital media. He works with creative tools including Logic Pro, Ableton Live, and Max/MSP, using technology as an extension of his musical process. He also explores visual storytelling through video creation and editing, expanding the ways he shares his music and creative projects.
